September Update Overview

Photo Scanner, iOS 18, and more!

We just released our September update! As always there are aa few new features and improvements in this release. The biggest one is our new photo scanner feature: We now allow you to scan your photos and suggest pins based on the geolocation.

Photo Scanner

This is the big item this release. Ever since we released Pin Traveler on the App Store many years ago, the number one feedback we’ve been getting is “why can’t you simply find where I have been from my photos?". in reality, this is a quite difficult thing to do because your photos your location exist on a continuous space that we want to map on to a finite number of pins. we believe we finally cracked this and can now suggest you candidate pins that are likely to match up quite well with what you would pin yourself.

Obviously, there are still scenarios in which you will get suggestions for multiple pins (one especially bad area for this is the Bay Area in the United States where they’re seemingly is a different city every other mile). This is why we don’t alter. Add any of your pens, but give you a list of candidates to choose from.

This feature is especially helpful for new users, but even I found three pins that I forgot to add to my map! so I'm sure you'll make good use of this too.

More Country Stats

We now have a little bit more statistics in your list page. You should see the number of pins you’ve added as Visited along with the number you have wish listed next to each country in the list view. if you don’t like how this looks, you can always turn it off from your setting page, but please let us know how we can improve stats like this!

iOS 18 & Teething Issues

As you likely know, Apple released their latest and greatest operating system iOS 18 recently. Usually, there’s only a couple breaking changes out of the operating system, but this one was especially painful for developers. Thank you so much to all of our users who have reported a variety of different issues that this update caused. I believe we fixed everything but please make sure you’re running the latest version and don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re still running into issues after the update.

Other bugfixes & under-the-hood improvements

As always with every release, we patch a couple minor bugs and implement a couple performance improvements. You should usually not notice these but a big one this time around was an issue that impacted new sign ups and logins and could potentially “brick" the app or get you stuck on the welcome screen. This along with a couple of bugs should now be patched. Again, thank you so much for your reports and please keep the bug reports coming. That’s the only way we can patch all of them!
