Home Page, Discover, and more!
We released our June update almost a week ago with a lot of exciting features that I’ve been dying to get this blog post out. Unfortunately, I’ve been going through some carpal tunnel pain so it took this long 😔
This is a huge update for us because we finally realized a lot of our long time goals around redesigning the homepage, building a new discovery card and adding more ways and what you can interact with your friends. In addition to the trips and places work, you’ll see a lot more social features and opportunity to discover new stuff this summer.
New homepage
This is the one change that you cannot miss with this update. Your map of countries traveled is now front and center on top of your homepage and is more interactive than ever before. You can tap on a country or flag to see starts on that country and access your country page. We have also added state flags for all states in the United States, Australia, Brazil, Germany and Canada, with more coming soon.
New Discover page
One thing that’s been a long time ask is more “discover“ content for our cities. With this update, we designed the discovery page to fit better with our new design language and added a lot more content to our top 50 pins. you can now see our favorite places in the cities, read short descriptions, and find our blog posts with tips, tricks, and our own experiences in the cities.
Another huge update here is now we show which of your friends have visited each city, and allow you to view your friends pins by just topping on their profile picture from this page. This has been in the works for a long time and has been one of the main use cases we’ve imagined from the app from the get-go. and I’m very excited that it’s finally here.
New QR scanner
We have been getting a lot of reports recently that iOS cameras would not scan and open friend QR codes in Pin Traveler, so we built our own. You can now access the QR reader from within the app and add your friends without issues. As always, please reach out to us if you’re into any issues and we can fix it going forward for everyone!
Minor fixes and other quality of life improvements
The flags for four UK countries are no longer displayed under all flags, instead, they show up when you tap the UK on the world map or the flag view.
You can now change the size of your places independently from your destination pins
We added the name of the pin your editing to the edit pin page, because it was frankly confusing me too often
We added an option to mark a Visited pin as a wish listed pin. This was a popular user demand 😊
We now support multiple multiple modes of transportation icons in the trip page, just in case you visited the same destination on the same trip in multiple ways.
The default map style is now changed to match the classic Google maps map, and supports automatic dark mode.
Fix: we brought back the pin names on the homepage cover photos, which disappeared in our last update. (thanks!)
Fix: bug, a trip name was automatically being created and sent to the default name which disabled dynamically changing it
Fix: this is the most embarrassing one, we have the wrong state abbreviation for the Australian state of Tasmania. A huge thing to Australian users for correcting this!
